A Little Something

Trying to sort of organize myself creatively speaking, so here is just something small. A pair of haikus inspired by the nice break in weather we’ve been having in Pittsburgh.

The sun still shines down
But it has become friends with
The promise of fall.

The still-green grass grows
Slower now, preparing for
The leaves’ homecoming.

May Haikus: 21-30

21:
Respecting writers
Means accepting mastery
While expecting flaws.

22:
A big city life
Means compromising your space
For promised culture.

23:
Through the dappled wood:
Our footsteps a steady beat
Accented with breath.

24:
Sundays are the best
When Monday is not in sight.
Save work for Tuesday.

25:
Fireworks, cookouts:
Celebrations in order
To recall great lives.

26:
The shoes of adults
Are not meant for the barefoot;
Laces too binding.

27:
Darkest before dawn,
The deep breath after the sobs.
Come on. Time to work.

28:
Lots and lots of wings:
A Pittsburgh delicacy
Best served in small hills.

29:
Sushi for dinner
And a Target run for fun?
Weekend preamble.

30:
May springs into grass,
Forget looking for it now.
June? Rabbit rabbit.

May Haikus: 16-20

16:
Only Pittsburgh can
Make a walk in the rain seem
So damn idyllic.

17:
Old friends and bookends.
Then, some ultraviolence,
A side of strong girls.

18:
Thunderclaps o’erhead
More sweet than the to do list
Growing longer still.

19:
My body is this:
Spurned girlfriend at the window,
Hurling items down.

20:
The changes sneak up,
Suddenly making you think
Time is a mirage.
