  1. Never read HDT, but have read Hemingway, so can try this one:
    “Yesterday the dog died of cold; a deep lingering souless cold. Today the fish were frozen on the shore. I’ve seen too much, smelled too many deaths, yet, I continue. It is not an unhappy life.”
